FAQ
Why can't we get childcare subsidy in maternelle?
LCS has an exceptional registration with maternelle operating as a school. There is no guarantee that it could operate as a school again. Helen - I actually haven't heard a good answer to this one!!
Why is there insufficient after-school care?
PALS agrees that the situation is unacceptable. We believe that every parent that wants to work should be able to work. We continue to ask the school to improve availability of places. But we need parental support on this issue, so please, do, write to the school and ask for them to rectify the situation.
Why is it so hard to book and plan for after-school activities?
The system mirrors the process in France, but with a significant insufficiency of places - most spots are gone in under a minute from when bookings open. There are numerous commercial providers in the area and PALS will continue to ask the school to engage more internal activities, but also to open up external streams so that parents don't need to form their own groups.
Why can't I drop my children in class?
The School has a duty to protect the children in its care, and it is extremely challenging to do this when parents have free access to the courtyards whilst children are playing in the open air. Given the extended drop-off hours, giving the children the chance to play outside is a priority. PALS will, however, continue to challenge this rule for children in PS with a view that at least for the first XXXX children should be dropped into a safe classroom environment.
Will the new International Option in the French Bac end the IB?
The School has confirmed that it has no plans to do that. The International Option in the French Bac is effectively an additional option with a higher academic bar; whilst the IB remains a balanced course. Helen I have no idea here!!!.
What's FLSCO and why is my child missing school time
FLSCO is the school's program for accelerated French learning. It's particularly useful for children who joined the French education system later than PS and so may be lagging their peers in French and struggling to participate. Whilst your child will miss some of their normal study to learn French; their progress in the curriculum is likely to be much improved after learning French.
